  • Birthday Edition

    Don't forget my new prayer blog address: http://hopesprayers.blogspot.com/
    ~~~
    I have prayed about this and because its my birthday, I am going to take the liberty of asking that you pray for my family today. (Hey, its MY birthday, don't I get to do what I want?) Allison is in stable health at this time but my adorable husband had to leave town for work for several weeks. That means that even though I have a teenager who helps, it is nothing like having another parent here to manage her daily needs (food, baths, diapers, clothing, activities, etc.). I am not only missing my companion, I know that both of my girls feel his absence.One more reason for this posting, I wanted to bring attention to those of you who have not walked this path of having a child with medical needs, life still goes on around us. Birthdays, anniversaries and holidays take place while our children are sick or hospitalized. The calendar doesn't stop. We learn to adjust our celebrations. In the past ten years, we have spent a July 4th, Christmas week, Valentine's day, St. Patrick's day and an anniversary siting in our little girl's room wondering how it would turn out.So I am asking, not just for today, but when a holiday comes along, and you are praying for the meal or the day, lift up those kiddos and families who are just hoping for a regular day let alone a holiday. One more, I am acutely aware that I my solo flight in special needs parenting is temporary, for many it is not. I am sure that they grow weary and discouraged with the daily tasks and would love your prayers as well.
  • New Direction and Focus
    Those of you who have followed this blog for a while have noticed a shift towards prayer for families who are caring for children who are terminally, critically or chronically ill. I have decided to start a whole new blog just for that purpose. This one will be used for occasional updates on our life but my main focus will turn to prayer. My heart is to spread the word about families that need support. You will be able to find my new site at:
    Thank you for your continued prayers and caring for these parents of amazing kiddos!
  • Now Its Our Turn For Prayer
    Allison was in the ER this morning. She was having pain while being fed and a persistent fever. The ER staff knows the princess well and they took very good care of her. Her labs came back good as well as her X Rays and urinalysis. She still is having pain and fever but I am sure she will bounce back soon. She's still crying while being fed so keep her lifted up in prayer about that. Also, I really missed church today. I'll have to go to church online to get my fill.
    Thank you for your prayers,
    Jem
  • Sunday Prayer Focus- Fathers
    Today I want to mention several fathers who will be blessed by your prayers today.
    Dan's daughter Madalyn has spent the better part of the past two years in hospitals. Unable to eat and for the most part undiagnosed. He has spent countless days away from his wife and daughter to either work or take care of his other two children at home who are trying to keep some normalcy in their lives. Pray for blessings and continued endurance for Dan. Part of his family is away in yet another medical facility seeking answers.
    Justin is Moriah's Dad. He works/lives in Southern California but travels North to visit his precious baby girl in the ICU. He adores his wife and aches for his daughter to someday be well enough to come home. Pray for Justin to be encouraged and blessed with a special moment with his sweet girl.
    Todd and Adam are just two of the Dads experiencing their first Father's Day after losing a child. Both of their baby girls were born with numerous medical issues and fought hard to stay alive. They each have children still here on earth but without a doubt will be missing their sweet daughters today.
    Keith who is celebrating his 19th Father's Day as a Dad but his 15th without his dear Katie whose valiant fight with cancer ended when she was only four years old.
    My Dad, whose oldest son died within three days of being diagnosed with Leukemia and carried through one last wish that his little sister get married as planned less than three weeks later. Dad still speaks of Glenn with a tear in his eye and a breaking in his voice almost twenty years later.
    I am aware that there are very many more Dads in any one of these situations. There are Dads serving our country in the military whose children will not give them a hug today. I am also keenly aware that there are those whose children have been blessed with health and full lives. As you celebrate today, please take a brief moment to celebrate these Dad who will forever see their role as a father in a different light. Dads who are split between home, work and the hospital trying to emotionally and financially support their families.
My Cyber Family Sites
All of these dear families have a story. More than that they have a testimony to God's faithfulness during our journey. Some are walking a delicate balance of having medically fragile children, while know the excruciating pain of whispering goodbye all too soon. Each have strengthened my faith and all are drawing me closer to my First Love. Through their testimony, they are helping to rekindle my flickering flame.
